Our guides to foraging in the UK

Foraging is a vital part of who we are as a species – and although it can easily be dismissed as a slightly trendy activity there are plenty of folk out there who are integrating wild plants, fungi and fruits into their daily diets.

The articles below are a mixture of tutorials, opinion pieces and information guides to the edible wild species of the British Isles, written and compiled by Richard Prideaux and the Original Outdoors team.

If you are looking for foraging recipes or guidance on ethically harvesting wild meat, game or fish then you can find them using the links in the menu at the top of the page.

We also run foraging and wild food courses, mostly in North Wales, the Clwydian Range AONB and Snowdonia National Park

Can I pick wild flowers in the U.K.? When is it illegal?

In this blog post I will do my best to explain it, pick out the relevant parts of the legislation and steer a forager, bushcrafter or ethnobotanist in what is (hopefully) the right direction. At the bottom of this blog post is the shortened explanation (a tl;dr), but for those...
